RIP Boonie, 11th April 2013

Posted by HelenEdith on October 27, 2013

We went down to eight cats last April.

On 11th April, I took Boonie to the vet for euthanasia. If I’d realised the extent of his problems, I might have considered it a kindness to have done so sooner, as the vet felt several tumours, which explained his constant hunger coupled with weight loss.

I held Boonie while the final injection was administered and he purred until the injection took effect.

Here is Boonie as I want to remember him:

Big pussycats!

On Sunday, we went to see Jessie. I walked into her front hallway and Mitsi was in there. We always refer to Mitsi as a “little black cat”, but she looked so big to me after being with our kittens all week that I didn’t think she was Mitsi and I thought that there was an intruder in the house!

I took a picture of Mitsi indoors with the flash turned on but she got “green eye” and it wasn’t very good, so a picture of Mitsi will have to wait.

However, while outdoors, I got a picture of Boonie in a typical Boonie pose. He was making a rare foray outdoors and was reposing on the lawn, but deigned to lift his head and open his eyes to look at the camera. He is one gorgeous very large pussycat.

No, this isn’t the same grey cat. This one is Sam. He is a somewhat sleeker and more muscular cat than Boonie. The relationship is close, as their Persian mothers were litter-mates and they probably had the same father.

Sam is nearly as large as Boonie, but more active. He also ensures that he keeps his claws well sharpened at all times. Whereas you can do anything with Boonie, if you make a fuss of Sam, you need to watch what you’re doing at all times, because eventually he will decide to have you, and I can attest to how well he maintains his claws.

I was honoured by Sam last Sunday. I picked him up and put him on my lap and he sat up there and purred for a couple of minutes before jumping down and strutting off with his tail swaying slightly like a banner in a breeze.

Website Update: Jessie’s Album 2008

Posted by HelenEdith on December 26, 2008

I printed off a collection of pictures for Stephen’s Mum (Jessie) and gave them to her for Christmas.

This year’s collection wasn’t quite as personal as in past years, as events have conspired this year and we haven’t managed to go to places together where we would want a photographic record, so apart from portraits of some of the cats and some flowers from her garden. most of the pictures are simply ones that I hope Jessie will enjoy looking at rather than pictures which have any greater significance.

The whole album can be viewed here: Jessie’s Album, 2008

Here are a few of the pictures that you will find in the album:

Parrots from “Pollys Rescued Parrots Road Show”, photographed at the Wrotham Steam & Vintage Classic, which was a rather waterlogged affair this year, so the vehicles weren’t at their best, but the bird displays weren’t so affected by the soggy conditions, and turned out to provide the best photo opportunities.

There are plenty of pictures in the album which have already appeared on my website, but this one, although it appeared in my blog last February, hasn’t previously made it to my website. The sky really was red for that sunset!
